Race 3: Arnside Knott

A first time at this race for me and what a lovely venue for the start. I have never before, in over 20 years of fell running, seen such well appointed toilet facilities! Rows of sparkling clean cubicles, wash basins an even showers. Fantastic! There was even a very tempting cake stall with teas and coffees too but I resist these before the start. I'm sure Mo Farah doesn't do cakes until after a run.

Looking at the course on the map it looks like it will be fast. Not my speciality I have to admit but I am still chasing a top half finish and the initial climb and descent towards Arnside feel good. A fair effort on the main climb to Arnside Knott saw me arrive at the trig point in the top 50 and I picked up a couple of places on that first descent but the third and final climb took its toll. My blood sugar level seemed to drop under gravity, starting from the top of my head, and when the draining sensation reached my finger tips I decided to back off, loosing several places. Perhaps I should have had that flapjack before the start after all!

Kath did get a couple of pictures of runners including me
at the top but it really looks like I'm walking so here's a nice
picture of a cow on the path instead. And no they didn't
move out of the way when we got there!
